About Tammy

Tammy’s Story

Tammy Miller is North Dakota through and through. Raised near the small town of Brocket, Tammy has lived the values of hard work, community, self-reliance and perseverance.

Tammy began her career cleaning toilets and stocking shelves at the family business. As a teenager she defended the family store from robbers with her shotgun – until the sheriff arrived.

After college, she passed the CPA exam and started her career in public accounting. Tammy joined a small electrical distribution company – Border States Electric.

Tammy started as the accounting manager — and completed an MBA after hours. Working her way through the ranks, in 2006 Tammy was named CEO and board chair. Over the next 14 years she would lead the company to new heights – creating thousands of jobs along the way and helping thousands of employee-owners live the American Dream.

She believes in treating taxpayers like customers and making sure every tax dollar stretches as far as possible. Since becoming North Dakota’s Lt. Governor, Tammy has partnered with Governor Doug Burgum to transform state government, eliminate government waste, and drive innovation to keep North Dakota’s economy booming!

Tammy has been married to her husband, Craig, for over 30 years.
